Printer Accessory

Cardboard spool reinforcement design for AMS use.

A custom printed accessory designed to reinforce cardboard filament spools so they run more cleanly in an AMS-style filament system.

The problem

Cardboard filament spools can be convenient, but they can also deform, shed dust, or roll less consistently inside enclosed filament systems.

Quality3Ds designed a reinforcement set that supports the spool faces and centre area while keeping material use sensible. The finished parts were printed and installed on real cardboard spools.

Project scope

CAD design, slicer planning, functional print production, and installed test fit on filament spools in the AMS.

Useful for workshop workflow, printer maintenance, and small accessory production.

Design and installed result

This is the kind of small workflow problem where CAD and 3D printing can turn a recurring annoyance into a repeatable accessory.

Why it matters

Repeatable workshop fix

Once the geometry is proven, the same accessory can be printed for multiple spools.

Practical CAD design

Slots, rings, and clearances are designed around the real use case, not just appearance.

Better material handling

Small printed improvements can make day-to-day production printing more reliable.
