Local Case Study

Custom route start markers for Beta Climbing Gym.

Quality3Ds designed and printed compact arrow markers to help identify starting positions on the bouldering walls at Beta Climbing Gym in New Plymouth.

Shout-out to Beta Climbing Gym

Thanks to Peter and Beta Climbing Gym for sharing installed photos of the start marker arrows in use around the gym.

Beta Climbing Gym is a local bouldering gym in Waiwhakaiho, New Plymouth. Their walls gave this project a practical real-world setting: colour-coded, low-profile markers that routesetters can place beside holds without adding visual clutter.

Project scope

CAD design, prototype printing, colour variation, and small-batch production of non-load-bearing route start markers.

These markers are signage/route indicators. They are not climbing holds or structural climbing hardware.

What was made

The markers use a pointed arrow form, countersunk screw locations, and a compact shape that sits neatly beside holds on timber and panel walls.

Clear route starts

Arrow markers make the intended starting holds easier to identify.

Small-batch production

Repeated prints in multiple colours support different wall sections and route styles.

Practical installation

Countersunk fixing points help the markers sit cleanly on the wall surface.

Installed at Beta

Photos shared from the gym show the finished arrows installed beside holds across different wall angles and colour sets.
